The Flight

Air Canada offers daily direct flights to Sandspit (YZP) from Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The flight is quick—less than 90 minutes gate-to-gate—making your journey effortless.

1. What do I need to bring?

Please pack lightly and bring essential items such as layered clothing, medications, and toiletries. We provide all guests with quality rain gear, boots, and automatic personal flotation devices (PFDs).

2. Do I need a fishing license?

Yes, a valid BC tidal water fishing license with a salmon stamp is required to be obtained prior to your trip they can be acquired here through the National Recreational Licensing System.

3. Is there cell phone reception and Wi-Fi at the lodge?

Yes, both cell reception and fiber-optic Wi-Fi are available at our lodge. However, please note that cell reception will not be available while fishing on the west side of the islands.

4. When is the best season to fish in Haida Gwaii?

Our peak fishing season runs from May to September, with the best angling and weather conditions during this period.

5. Will my fish be processed before I depart?

Yes, we partner with T & M Processing, located at the sportfishing dock. Your catch will be expertly custom processed, flash frozen, vacuum-sealed and placed in boxes designed to keep your fish frozen for 48-72 hours. Each box is packed to weigh just under 50 lbs, so you can check it in with the airline just like any other piece of luggage.

6. What are my dining options in the evening?

The Lodge is conveniently located just minutes from a variety of local restaurants and two grocery stores. For added convenience, we offer a courtesy vehicle, allowing guests the flexibility to dine out or pick up essentials from town. For those who prefer to stay in, our Lodge features a large fully equipped kitchen with everything needed to prepare evening meals with ease.

7. Which hotels in Vancouver provide shuttle service to the airport and freezer storage?

For guests with layovers in Vancouver, the Fairmont is conveniently located within Vancouver International Airport. Additionally, Pacific Gateway Hotel is just minutes from the airport and provides a shuttle service. Both hotels offer ample freezer space for your catch to be stored prior to your flight.

8. What is the length of time spent on the water each day?

Our fishing days are 10 hours (dock to dock). Our boats are equipped with onboard restrooms, and we provide full lunches, snacks, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages for your enjoyment.

Goods and Services Tax (5% GST).

Deposits and Payments:

  • A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to confirm fishing trips. If necessary, this deposit may be applied to future bookings for the following calendar year.
  • Full payment for fishing trips is due on or before May 1st of the trip season.

Cancellation and Refunds:

  • Final payments are refundable if a cancellation notice is received at least 30 calendar days prior to the trip start date.
  • We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect against any unforeseen changes or cancellations.
